PLAYLIST | Bestival Blues

Unless you've not read ellie etc recently, you'll know I went off to the festival Bestival a few weeks ago. I said it last year, and I'll probably say it again next year. But long story short. Best weekend ever. Seriously. If you ever have the chance to go, definitely do.

Anyway, enough of my gushing over Bestival. While I was there we saw so many artists, some of whom are old favourites and an equal number of new bands/singers/DJ's. I made myself a Bestival playlist to ease myself back into the real world, so thought I'd share some of my finds.

If you wanted to look at my Bestival Lookbook posts here is part ONE, TWO and THERE.

Did you attend Bestival or another festival this year? If you have any other music you think I'd like please let me know in the comments below too!

FOOD | Uni Eats - The Dinner Edition

As I mentioned in PART ONE (a.k.a. The Breakfast/Brunch/Lunch Edition) I'm continuing on with my Uni themed posts after the great response from my 7 Things To Expect During Freshers post. I am no chef/dietitian/nutritionist/professional in any way, shape or form. These are just a few things I've been cooking recently and like to eat at Uni when I'm in charge of feeding myself every day!

CHICKEN, POTATOES AND CHORIZO

This is one of my mums favourites too. Literally all you have to do it whack everything in a baking tray with some oil and seasoning, bake and then you're good to go. For how easy this is it tastes absolutely amazing. Definitely one I'd make it I were ever civilised enough to host a dinner party.

MEATBALLS AND PATATAS BRAVAS

I don't eat enough iron rich foods so I decided to buy some beef mince. Stuck with what to make I turned to google and discovered how stupidly easy meatballs are to make. (Seriously, look it up). And to make things more interesting I fried potatoes and tomato passata to make a patatas bravas type thing.

STIR FRY

One of my favourites, so so easy (I'm extremely lazy). I usually just buy stir fry vegetable mix and douse with an adequate helping of soy sauce. Like I said, lazy. It's a good one to make if your tired or hungover or in a rush because it's so easy and quick.
dinner, eating, food, health, healthy eating, ideas, lifestyle, meal, meal ideas, uni, University,

PASTA

Simple staple food for uni. Stock up! The picture above is pasta with chicken fried with pesto (another weird but good one) and of course some kale. Then below is a new discovery of mine. If you know me, you'll know that avocados are my favourite food. So when I found a recipe for pasta sauce with avocado and garlic I had to give it a try. It was so worth it.

ENCHILADAS

Okay I cheated a bit on these ones. I didn't aaactually make them. These are a speciality of a very kind housemate/friend of mine. I adore Mexican food, and enchiladas are no exception. They're also so filling which is always a bonus.

If you'd like me to do separate posts with full instructions/recipes/photos for any of the meals in this or the Breakfast/Brunch/Lunch edition, I would love to, please let me know!

FOOD | Uni Eats - The Breakfast, Brunch and Lunch Edition

Continuing on my Uni posts (check out 7 Things To Expect During Freshers) I thought I'd show some of my recent kitchen creations. Plus, because term has started for some/almost started for others, it's perfect timing for some ideas of what to cook when you're depended on feeding yourself during term time...

But first I need a little disclaimer. The majority of uni lunches/dinners in my freshers year consisted of potato waffles, cereal or toasties. These dinners were definitely not the norm, but since feeling so groggy and blobby (yes, that is a legitimate description for a feeling) along with having a hob/oven between 4 people instead of 10, I've begun to make a bit more of an effort to eat more healthily and look after myself. That and some stern words from several family members to start eating like a normal person. Hehe.

BAKED AVOCADO + EGGS

Avocado and egg is one of my favourite combinations, it sounds really weird and wrong but tastes soo good. I'm sure many of you will have seen photos knocking around Pinterest/Instagram/other blogs too. Scrambled the eggs and slice the avocado and you've got yourself another tasty meal too.

SCRAMBLED EGG + KALE

Speaking of scrambled egg, one of my favourites by the way, I'm always trying to find things I can add to it to make it a tad more interesting. That along with the massive kale overload we managed to have in our house the other day (seriously, half the fridge was full of the stuff), I tried it out and it's such a tasty idea - plus healthy too!

SPANISH OMELETTE

I love omelettes. They are yet another of the most simple but most tasty meals. If you add in new potatoes - left over from the night before if you're being really good - and chorizo - if you want to get middle class - it turns a simple omelette into a Spanish omelette. Yum yum yum.

A GOOD OL' SALAD

Salad is one of my favourite lunches, it fills you up surprisingly well and theres just so many options! For this particular beauty, I treated myself to some ready made cous-cous and feta salad from Co-Op (which tastes incredible) and added that on top. But to be honest it would be so easy to do a homemade version.

AND THE SWEET STUFF...

First up, oats and yogurt mixed together tastes so good. If you've ever had bircher muslei it tastes a bit similar to that. Yum. The slightly burnt looking things are pancakes made solely from banana, egg, oats and baking powder. They taste like banana bread. So good with yogurt and strawberries.

What are your favourite breakfast, brunch or lunch meals?

#bloggersfestival, bare minerals, blogger, brands, event, jewellerybox.co.uk, lego, lifestyle, Scarlett London, simply be, theperfumeshop.com,

A week or so ago I was lucky enough to receive an email from the lovely Scarlett of ScarlettLondon.com inviting me to attend her event the #BloggersFestival in London! Of course I jumped at the chance, I've never had the privilege of attending a blogging event before, and I just couldn't wait to meet lots of other bloggers and experience an event - especially one as legendary as one of Scarlett's.

I met with Sam from Samantha's Beauty Loves and Heather from 100 ways to 30 who were both attending alone too. Then we met the lovely Maddy from Madolyn Thinks. They're all such lovely girls, I'm so glad to have met them!

At the event was a multitude of recognisable brands such as LEGOJewelleryBox.co.ukSimply BeThePerfumeShop.com and Bare Minerals as well as some exciting new names such as Minimal, Nanshy and Yoogia- it was incredible to chat to their representatives and get to know the brands better in a more personal setting. It was almost overwhelming not only the brands that were there but also the number of other bloggers that were there. I know there's a lot of us out there on the internet, but when you're sat behind your computer screen in your living room it's difficult to physically picture everyone.

Thank you so much to Scarlett for inviting me, and for putting on such an incredible event! Thank you to all the brands that attended and the cute goodie bags. And thank you to all the lovely people I met for making the experience extra special. I can't wait to attend more events!

Did you attend the #BloggersFestival? Or do you have a blogging event coming up soon? It would be lovely to meet some more bloggers at future events!

LIFESTYLE | 4 Things People Don't Tell You About Blogging

advice, blogging, ideas, lifestyle, list, tips, things people don't tell you about blogging, bloggers,
I thought I'd branch out from my usual fashion/lifestyle theme. I've just been sat on my lonesome for a while thinking about the world of blogging, how much I love it, but how much there is behind the exciting emails, events and even collaborations with amazing brands. These are my four top things people don't tell you about blogging, wether you're a newbie, have never written a blog before or even been at it for years..

1 // BLOGGING IS HARD.

Blogging is bloody hard work. Seriously. I'm sure many people who don't own a blog think - much as I thought before I created ellie etc - "Blogging seems a piece of cake, easy peasy. What are these people talking about?!". Just no. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love blogging, otherwise I wouldn't be here tapping away on my keyboard trying to think of the best posts to share with you guys. But the networking, the countless social media accounts, the subtle but very real demand for new and unique content. It's bloody tiring.

2 // IT TAKES TIME. AND EFFORT.

You most probably won't be highly skilled with a prefect looking blog straight off the bat. It really takes a lot time, and effort to get your template to co-operate, for your content to be in the niche you want it to be in, for your follower numbers and page views to start to climb. ellie etc has been around since late 2012 (eek!) but I still consider myself as fairly 'new' as only recently I've been putting in much more time and effort. But it seriously shows results.

3 // YOU DON'T NEED LOADS OF MONEY

For some it may seem as though bloggers always have the new 'it' thing. But you don't have to have all the new stuff/a tonne of money to constantly be buying new things to put on your blog. I won't deny that there are pressures to always have new stuff, from seeing other posts of hauls and a new outfit every other day, but new content does not have to mean buying new stuff. You can create so much content with stuff you already own. There are loads of great posts for ideas floating around the internet, some great ones are HERE, HERE and HERE. There is so much you can do without having to hit the shops every day of the year and subsequently find yourself 1000s of pounds overdrawn.

advice, blogging, ideas, lifestyle, list, tips, things people don't tell you about blogging, bloggers,

4 // DO WHAT YOU WANT TO DO.

For me, I love writing primarily about my personal style, but also fun things I do and places I go to on days out, food I eat, songs I'm listening to; basically just my life. But just because almost all the blogs you read/come across are writing in a particular theme, doesn't mean you have to. I have friends who write book reviews, travel diaries, guides to student life, and thought provoking articles about present day life and things going on in the media at the moment. At the end of the day, your blog is your own personal piece of the internet, somewhere you can write/post anything you want to do. Don't conform to standards if you're not interested in or feel passionately about them.

Phew, that was another long one wasn't it? Not used to this much writing.. On a slightly more upbeat note, I would just like to reiterate how much I honestly do love blogging. Despite the sometimes more bleak sides to it, it's one of my absolute favourite past times and love investing my time and effort into it. It's just so exciting.

Let me know in the comments if you liked this style of post and would like to see posts similar to this and my 7 Things To Expect From Freshers more regularly here on ellie etc. Do you have anything you'd wish someone had told you about blogging?

STYLE | What to Wear to Bestival Lookbook - Day Three

Off the Shoulder Top - ASOS // Skirt - Boohoo // Sandals - New Look (similar)

For Look Three for Bestival's Summer of Love theme I've gone for a very 70's gypsy style. Along with more boohoo.com lovin' (check out my collab. with them HERE) with this gorgeous flowy maxi skirt - double slits and all. The off the shoulder gypsy style top was featured in my recent ASOS HAUL post which I've not actually worn yet, because I've not really had a reason to (read: I don't want to ruin it/spill anything on it before Bestival). I don't often wear maxi skirts, but I love this high waisted style paired with a cropped top.

I'm starting to worry slightly about the maxi skirt incase of rain/mud/dirty ground, but fingers crossed the weather is on our side!

Are you heading over to Bestival in a few days? What would you wear?

In my last post I explained how next weekend I'm going to Bestival (eek!), the theme is The Summer of Love so I've put together three outfits for each day of the festival.

For day two I've gone for that more typical 70's style that's almost everywhere you look at the moment. I picked up the gorgeous zip up skirt along with the dress from Day One's post during my trip to Birmingham (you can read all about that HERE), we were just about to leave Primark I spotted it and thought YES. I need that. I love the ring pull and contrasting gold hardware with the rust brown coloured faux suede.

I might take a long sleeve crop top as well, just incase the weather decides to not be on our side for the weekend. But fingers crossed it'll be warm(ish) and dry! And then of course the fedora had to be added too. When I'll get bored of wearing this hat you may ask? I cannot see it happening in the near future is my answer.

Dress - Primark (similar) // Sunglasses - River Island // Sandals - New Look (similar) // Flower Crown - Market Stall  (similar)

In just over a week I'm heading over to the Isle of Wight to the festival Bestival (eek!). They seem to always coordinate their themes with the current trends in fashion, which means it's a perfect festival to dress for. This year's theme is The Summer of Love a.k.a. hippy/gypsy/seventies style.

So for this special time of year, I thought I'd put together three looks as inspiration as a What to Wear to Bestival Lookbook.

For day one I've gone for a hippy vibe. This incredibly comfy off the shoulder gypsy-style dress is a Primark find (during my trip to Birmingham which you can read all about HERE). I spotted it and I just pictured myself dancing with flowers and braids in my hair. Ahh. So much excitement.

Speaking of flowers in my hair, of course I had to throw in a flower crown. Because I mean, how could I be a British teenage female festival go-er without a flower crown?! *insert picture of dog in field with flowers on head meme*. I would love to pair this dress with some of those gorgeous lace up Aquazzura dupe flats/sandals that are just about everywhere, however I am highly irresponsible with money, so I can't afford any right now. Boo.

Are you heading to Bestival? What are you planning to wear, or what would you wear if you were going?

Stay tuned for Day Two and Three!
