LIFESTYLE | Freakin' Fitness

Recently I've become very conscious of my health and fitness. I'm doing all I can to get myself back on track, so I thought I'd share a few of my tips and routines. I just want to be clear my aim is just to get fit, to be healthy and toned - not skinny or boney or any of that as my body is not ever going to naturally and healthily look that way.

1. Eating
As few processed foods as possible and lots of fruit and vegetables. I know it's boring and repetitive but it's true! I like to have porridge, granola or bircher muesli for breakfast as they're full of fibre and keep me full until lunch. Another tip I've learnt is to stop eating after dinner, that gives your stomach time to digest your food before you go to sleep - resulting in a restful nights sleep.

2. Snacking
Ignore advice telling you to stop snacking. It's important to eat little and often so you don't become over hungry and end up over eating. To help sneak in one of my 5-a-day, some of my favourite snacks are: a banana with peanut butter or granola with greek yogurt and frozen raspberries or a sliced banana.

3. Drinking
Water is the key. Again, it's boring, I know, but it's so vital for your body. I've got a passion for green and fruit teas which makes drinking water a bit more interesting. Alcohol is often referred to as 'empty calories' as it is very calorific but it doesn't provide any nutrition. However, I'm young and like most people I enjoy going out for a few drinks with my friends, so alcohol is my little treat.

4. Exercise
Almost every day I walk at least for 30 minutes to and/or from college. Also for some extra cardio I run on the treadmill - usually for however long I can manage! Recently I've started the infamous Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred. One word - ouch! After the first day I could barely walk, but I'm persevering as I've heard of such great results from it. I will try to report back on my progress with it!

5. Cheat Days
I think this is the most important point in this post. At the end of the day you're only human, everyone makes mistakes and likes to indulge. Allow yourself 'cheat days' a day off maybe once a fortnight or once a month where you are allowed to eat whatever you want to. It won't have a massive impact on your health as long as its all in moderation.

This post is purely for those who'd like to hear my views on health and fitness and what I like to do. I'm not a professional, please don't take any of this too seriously. Just remember it's your body and you're free to do what you like with it, don't feel pressured to change by anything or anyone if you don't want to.

Mom Jeans - ASOS
Grey Check Shirt - Vintage (similar)
Cream Crop Top - Topshop
Monochrome Slip On Shoes - New Look

I've been wanting some jeans like these for such a long time, so when I came across these on ASOS I just couldn't resist (the 25% student discount was strongly persuasive too). I kind of expected them to be a bit looser, but I guess the shape of my legs isn't quite right for the style. The rip in the knee adds a little bit extra to them which I like. I'm still debating snipping holes in a pair of my black jeans too, but I still can't work up the confidence to do it - I'm so worried I'll regret it!

The check shirt is something I'm wearing very very (maybe a bit too) often! It's so soft and just cosy and perfect for snuggling up at home or running errands or for college.

If you hadn't guessed already, this bank holiday weekend resulted in a mother-daughter IKEA trip. IKEA is one of those places which I get so overwhelmed by how attractive everything looks, and how cheap everything is, and I end up buying far more than I intended to - or can particularly afford to.

I'm very into the monochrome + neon pairing at the moment. Apparently I'm having a sudden attraction to pink also. My mini palm tree has to be my favourite of the lot though. We were on our way home from holiday, transferring flights at Miami, when I spotted the little beauty. It honestly was one of my highlights of the holiday - so sad but so true!

Home decor shopping gets me so excited for the prospect of decorating my Uni room in September. But I can't help but think if I plan too much or buy anything for it, I'm going to jinx it all and I'll end up not getting into any Uni at all...

What did you get up to over the bank holiday weekend?
